Top pick of the week

The IE8 curse: standards compliance
"Microsoft is heralding IE8 as the first standards compliant browser," writes Converging on Microsoft blogger Mitchell Ashley. "But Internet Explorer 8 has to live in a world that isn’t fully web standards compliant, partly because of IE’s own non-compliant and 'unique feature' past sins. Implementation of web coding standards seem about as precise as many network protocols; the details, like the devil (as they say), are in the details of vendors’ implementations."

Microsoft added Maria Klawe to its board of directors. Klawe (pronounced Claw-vay) has been the President of Harvey Mudd College since 2006. Being close to the college crowd and having spent eight years at IBM Research, Klawe could help Microsoft better turn its R&D into desireable products.

Tripped up on some PowerShell oddness
Maybe this posting can be classified as a stupid PowerShell trick.  Or, it's just me blabbing on about how I wish error handling in PowerShell worked a certain way (it's always been a sore subject).  I was writing a script in CTP3 and ... errors were not popping up where I thought they should.

MMS is being held in Las Vegas April 27-May 1. After Microsoft's announcements last year regarding virtualization and monitoring Linux systems using Operations Manager, this year should be equally interesting (although flying pigs remains to be seen).
